Scripture: Genesis 3:8
“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”
Introduction: Why We Can’t Walk Alone
Have you ever heard someone say, “I don’t need anybody, it’s just me and God”? It sounds spiritual, doesn’t it? But the truth is, it’s not biblical. From the beginning of creation, God designed us to thrive in connection with Him and with one another. Isolation is not strength; it is a trap. Relationship is God’s pathway to growth, healing, and destiny.
We Were Made for Relationship
Life is built on relationships. Even God, who sits in heaven, chose to walk with Adam in the cool of the day. If the Almighty valued relationship with man, how much more should we value relationships with one another?
The Trap of Isolation
When Adam and Eve sinned, their first response was to hide. That is always how the enemy begins by isolating us. In isolation, he whispers lies: “You’re not good enough. You can’t make it. You’re unworthy.”
Isolation breeds condemnation. Condemnation breeds depression. Depression breeds destruction. That is why no one ever falls in public, the breakdown begins in private. Don’t let the devil cut you off from godly fellowship.
Whose Voice Are You Hearing?
Adam and Eve were fine until Eve listened to the serpent. One wrong voice shifted the entire direction of their lives.
The same happens to us today. Every conversation either adds to your life or subtracts from it. Every voice plants something in your spirit.
-
If after talking with someone your heart is bitter, you’ve listened to a snake.
-
If after a conversation you feel hopeless or angry toward your brother or sister, you’ve been poisoned by a snake.
-
If after sharing your dreams someone tells you it’s impossible, they’ve sown unbelief.
Be careful who you allow to speak into your life.
Why Relationships Matter
No one succeeds alone. Even your prayers, as powerful as they are, often manifest through people. God won’t drop money or opportunities from heaven—He will send men and women as destiny helpers.
Look at your life right now: where you are today is the result of relationships you have kept—or failed to keep. Show me a man or woman of greatness, and I’ll show you someone who values and nurtures relationships.
Investing in People
Healthy relationships don’t just happen—they are built.
Years ago, a young bishop in Nigeria gathered five young men and poured into them. Today, those men lead ministries around the world. That’s the fruit of intentional investment.
Ask yourself: Who am I investing in? In ten years, who will be standing with you? Many of us only “take” from relationships without giving. But parasitic connections cannot last. True relationship is mutual investment.
Relationship in the Church
Sadly, even in church we sometimes miss the beauty of fellowship. Too often we rush out as soon as service ends, barely exchanging more than a polite “Hi.”
But the early church was different. Acts tells us they broke bread from house to house and through that unity they did mighty exploits.
Sometimes what your brother or sister needs isn’t money: it’s a smile, a question, or a listening ear. Love builds the kind of community where the Spirit of God moves freely.
Three Takeaways
-
Guard your ears. Don’t entertain voices that sow bitterness, fear, or unbelief.
-
Guard your heart. Don’t allow isolation or condemnation to rob you of joy.
-
Invest in people. Build relationships that are life-giving and purposeful.
Conclusion
The power of relationship cannot be overstated. God Himself models it. He didn’t create man to walk alone. He walked with Adam, He sent Christ to reconcile us, and He gave us the church to be a family.
So don’t withdraw. Don’t despise the people around you. Value them. Invest in them. Grow with them. Because in God’s design, your breakthrough will often come through the hands of another.
As you step into this week, may God connect you with destiny helpers, grant you wisdom to nurture godly relationships, and give you discernment to silence the voice of the serpent.
Hallelujah. Amen.
